Engineering Academy Head receives MBE in New Year's Honours 2019

We’re delighted to announce that David Hughes, Head of Uniper’s Engineering Academy, has been awarded an MBE in the New Year's Honours 2019 for services to Education, in recognition of the work he has done in promoting and growing apprenticeship delivery.

David, a Chartered Engineer and Fellow of the Institution of Engineering and Technology, has led the internationally-respected Uniper Engineering Academy since 2012. Most recently, leading the team to achieve a ‘Good’ overall rating from Ofsted during the last inspection, with an ‘Outstanding’ for leadership and management. David and his team, also recently won the regional final (East Midlands) of the 2018 Apprenticeship Awards, large employer category.

David  commented ‘I am absolutely delighted to be recognised in this way and proud to continue to play a part in raising the profile and standing of apprenticeships.’

In addition to heading up the Engineering Academy, David has been a member of East Midlands Apprenticeship Ambassador Network since its inception in 2009 and Chair since 2014.  He has worked with the Government and Education and Skills Funding Agency (ESFA) to grow and promote apprenticeship delivery within the East Midlands region; working with organisations large and small to provide support so that they can utilize the huge benefits apprenticeships can bring to their business.   David Potter, Director of Products and Services at Uniper Technologies said ‘This is fantastic recognition of David’s dedication to training and development; in particular, how he has championed apprenticeships within the East Midlands.
