Course Content
During the training course, candidates will discuss the processes required to install a new Substation into a HV ring network. Topics include:-
- Isolation and Earthing requirements to achieve safety from the system
- Cable Identification process, including applicable safety document
- Cable spiking, including applicable safety document
- Obtaining cable colours to ensure correct connections
- Cable jointing, including applicable safety documents
- System HV pressure test requirements, including applicable safety document
- System safety requirements prior to energising (Substation under HV rules, new labels etc.)
- HV phase checks prior to finally energising new installation onto a ring system, to include expected voltages and process required if unexpected voltages are present during the phase check
The following practical exercises will be carried out:
- Circuit Isolation and Earthing (off-rules equipment)
- Cable identification via a signal tone generator (off-rules equipment)
- Cable spiking demonstration using a ‘spiking tool’ (off-rules equipment)
- Obtaining cable colours using continuity test equipment (off-rules equipment)
- HV Pressure test demonstration using a DC pressure test set (off-rules equipment)
- HV Phasing checks on the live system using phase test equipment
