Uniper wins at Regional Final of the 2018 National Apprenticeship Awards

Uniper has beaten off some stiff competition to win the regional final (East Midlands) of the 2018 National Apprenticeship Awards.

The energy company, which runs the internationally-respected Engineering Academy at Ratcliffe-on- Soar in Nottinghamshire, secured its place as a national finalist by winning the regional final, establishing itself as the best-in-class in its category in the East Midlands this year.

It will now go through in the Royal Navy Award for Large Apprentice Employer of the Year category at the national final, to be held in November.

The awards are now in their 15th year and are run by the National Apprenticeship Service (NAS). They are designed to recognise excellence in the world of apprenticeships – spotlighting businesses that grow their own talent with apprenticeships, apprentices who have made a significant contribution to their workplaces, and individuals who go above and beyond to champion apprenticeships.

“This was the first time we’d entered the awards, so to have reached the final at our very first attempt is fantastic,” said David Hughes, Head of the Uniper Engineering Academy. “We really believe in the importance of apprenticeships in creating the workforce of tomorrow, and it’s great to see our efforts recognised in this way.

“It’s a tribute to all the hard work put in, not only by our Academy team, but also our colleagues across the wider Uniper business, to make sure that our apprenticeship programmes and support are second to none.”

The national finals take place on November 28th.
