We are Back!
This week saw the Engineering Academy being bought back to life after a spell away due to the Coronavirus pandemic.
Our first delegates to return to the classroom were Chris Thompson, from Saltend Cogeneration Company Limited and Henry Kay from the NHS’s Chesterfield Royal Hospital who have both completed our five-day, City and Guilds in High Voltage Operational Safety, delivered by Uniper’s expert HV Trainers, Graham Bass and Gary Walton.
Chris is no stranger to Uniper’s Engineering Academy having completed his apprenticeship with us a couple of years ago, he said, “Its been great coming back to the Engineering Academy, especially as this time I’m here as a qualified Engineer, I’m not learning my trade as such, I’m here to support my own personal development, which is a nice feeling”.
Henry Kay, knows all too well the importance of staying safe, being a front-line worker at the NHS, he said “this course came recommended to me, and it hasn’t disappointed. Despite the circumstances, the trainers and staff at the Engineering Academy have done everything they can to keep us safe, without compromising the learning experience, I’ve really enjoyed it”.
The Engineering Academy has been a lonely place over the last three months as our learners are at the heart of everything we do. Whilst we’ve managed to convert 30% of our courses to online delivery during lockdown it’s nice to know that we can get back into the classroom and workshops to support the delivery of our more practical courses too.
Tammy Bristow, Operations Manager said, “I’m so proud of all my colleagues at Uniper. They have worked tirelessly over the last few weeks to ensure we have a Covid-Secure training environment where we can continue to deliver important skills to our industry and its been a pleasure having Chris and Henry with us this week completing their City & Guilds 9848-51 Certificate in High Voltage Operational Safety Training Course.”
